Designed to assist Ohio educators with the responsibility of complying with the Copyright Revision Act of 1976, this handbook is intended to be used as a tool by library media personnel working in concert with school boards and local administrators to determine policies and procedures for compliance. Discussions include the following topics: (1) a definition of the copyright law, including Section 107--Fair Use, Section 108--Reproduction by Librarians and Archives, and Section 110--Exemptions of Certain Performances and Displays; (2) rights and responsibilities for superintendents and school boards, principals, library media coordinators/supervisors, computer coordinators/supervisors, and teachers; (3) suggested procedures for copyright compliance, including sample policy statements and statements of designation of responsibility; (4) guidelines for the reproduction or use of copyrighted materials, including material in print, music, audiovisual material, and computer software; and (5) signs, labels, and forms to be used as tools for monitoring copyright compliance. A 17-item bibliography and a listing of 6 organizations that could provide help are included. (KM)
