The Teaching of General Solution Methods to Pattern Finding Problems through Focusing on an Evaluation and Improvement Process.
Ishida, Junichi
School Science and Mathematics, v97 n3 p155-62 Mar 1997
Examines the effects of a teaching strategy in which fifth-grade students evaluated the strengths or weaknesses of solution methods to pattern finding problems, including an experimental and control group each consisting of 34 elementary students, in Japan. The experimental group showed a significantly better performance on the retention test although no significant differences were observed on the pre- and posttests. (Author/ASK)
