In three years of planning the library, Mt. Sac College considered--(1) analysis of philosophy and objectives of the college, (2) a library which would implement the instructional program, (3) a library procedure analysis including time and motion studies, (4) automat"d library procedures, (5) suitable building structures, and (6) present trends in library building. Results of the three year study which were incorporated in the new building are described with illustrations. Particular notice is given the automated book handling features, audiovisual aids storage and circulation methods, study carrel arrangements, structural materials and features, and methods of achieving maximum service with minimum staffing.
