Comments on Reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act
Jobs for the Future
In these comments on the reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), submitted to the U.S. Department of Labor, Jobs for the Future (JFF) addresses the following issues with WIA: (1) Goal and purpose: JFF advocates for a more explicit commitment to advancement to family-sustaining wages; (2) Mix of services: JFF proposes revisions that would increase access to training under WIA; (3) Level of funding: JFF advocates for a stable or expanded level of funding; (4) Performance measures and incentives: JFF advocates for further strengthening of performance measures and incentives tied to employment, retention, and advancement goals; (5) Employer engagement and service: JFF suggests provisions that can improve employer engagement and the quality of services to employers; and (6) Relationship to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF): JFF proposes ways for the adult workforce system and the TANF welfare system to be better integrated and to collaborate more effectively at the state and local levels.
