Children with Cystic Fibrosis: A Primer for School Psychologists
Mahdavi, Seema
Communique, v44 n3 p4, 6-7 Nov 2015
Approximately 30,000 people in the United States have cystic fibrosis (CF), and each year around 1,000 new cases are diagnosed. About one half of this population consists of school-age youth. With an understanding of the psychosocial and mental health factors surrounding CF, school psychologists are well positioned to support children and adolescents within the school setting, and serve as consultants between school, home, and medical settings. The purpose of this article is to present an overview of CF, issues related to mental health and schooling, and discuss implications for school psychologists. A list of helpful websites and resources is also provided.
