Financial Aid for Study Abroad: A Manual for Advisers and Administrators.
Cooper, Stephen, Ed.; And Others
This manual addresses federal sources of aid for undergraduate students seeking to study overseas with emphasis on the requirements and administrative aspects of programs funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. These issues are addressed in five chapters: (1) "Governmental Financial Aid: Kinds, Sources, and Regulations" (a general overview of financial aid requirements and procedures); (2) "Applying Governmental Aid to Overseas Programs" (administrative mechanisms and procedures); (3) "Establishing and Maintaining a Campus Delivery System" (how study abroad advisers and administrators can influence their institutions' policies to increase the flow of financial aid to eligible students); (4) "Strategies for Improving Access to Financial Aid" (how federal financial rules are made, varying rule interpretations, and the general structure of state, institutional and private aid programs); and (5) "Other Sources of Financial Aid for Overseas Study" (institutional funding initiatives involving foundations, corporations and service organizations, etc.). An appendix, titled Forms and Other Useful Documents, includes an information sheet prepared by Brandeis University (Massachusetts) on financial aid available for study abroad, a similar information sheet from Georgetown University (District of Columbia), and a brochure, "Financial Aid Options for Study Abroad," produced by Louisiana State University. Includes 31 references. (JB)
