With funding obtained from the Elementary Secondary Education Act Title IV-C, the Philadelphia School District awarded 40 mini-grants to individual teachers and other school district staff. The grants, ranging from $200 to $1,000, were awarded in March, 1979. These 40 programs were selected for implementation from a total of 398 project proposals. Approximately 5,600 students, from preschool to grade 12, participated in these programs, which covered a total of 14 subject areas, including special education.
