Reading Improvement through Home Help; A Program for Parents and Their Children.
Wheeler, Doris; Henderson, Hannah Dale
The program outlined in this guide was developed on the theory that an important factor in determining a child's success in reading is an enriched background of prereading educational experiences (in the areas of language, motor skills, auditory and visual perception, and self-image) which can be directed at home by parents. In this program, the school supplies the materials and offers assistance to parents for using these materials with children in kindergarten through third grade. Sections in this guide contain material on parent involvement; descriptions of parent handouts (on games, beginning readers, behavioral portraits, how a child learns to read, and reading readiness); incentive paper--drawings for children to color; commercial materials; and district-developed materials.
