THIS GUIDE, BASED UPON THE NEBRASKA CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT CENTER MATERIALS, IS DESIGNED TO EXPLAIN THE VOCABULARY AND BASIC ELEMENTS OF LINGUISTICS TO THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER WHO HAS HAD LITTLE OR NO FORMAL TRAINING IN LINGUISTICS. TO THIS END, A GLOSSARY OF LINGUISTIC TERMINOLOGY, GUIDING TEACHING PRINCIPLES, A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF RELEVANT BOOKS AND PERIODICAL ARTICLES, AND SECTIONS ON THE NATURE OF LANGUAGE, PHONOLOGY, MORPHOLOGY, FORM CLASSES, SYNTAX, DIALECT, USAGE, AND THE HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARE INCLUDED. EACH OF THE SECTIONS CONTAINS A BRIEF, INTRODUCTORY EXPLANATION OF THE LANGUAGE ELEMENT UNDER DISCUSSION AND SUGGESTIONS FOR LINGUISTIC ACTIVITIES AND GAMES FOR CLASSROOM USE AT THE INTERMEDIATE-GRADE LEVEL.
