Examined the role of sophistication in interpersonal negotiation strategies in the formation of friendships. Subjects were 74 adolescents who began the academic year in a new school following an intercommunity move. Found that adolescents with medium and high scores on measures of peer negotiation formed intimate friendships within three months, whereas adolescents with low scores did not. (MDM)
