Use of Adaptive Behavior Measures and Overrepresentation of Black Students in Programs for Students with Mild Mental Retardation.
Reschly, Daniel J.; Ward, Susan M.
American Journal on Mental Retardation, v96 n3 p257-68 Nov 1991
The use of adaptive behavior information for classification and placement of African-American and white students (n=707) with mental retardation was compared. Comparisons on general intellectual functioning and several indices of adaptive behavior yielded few differences, suggesting equal treatment was achieved despite substantial overrepresentation of African-American students in programs for the mildly retarded.
