Experience in the Vice Principalship: Preparation for Leading Schools?
Greenfield, William D.; And Others
Journal of Educational Administration, v24 n1 p107-21 Win 1986
Examines the assumption that "experience is the best teacher" for preparing vice principals for the principalship, drawing on the results of four studies. Findings suggest that role orientations emphasizing managerial or maintenance functions over instructional leadership or school improvement functions provide a dysfunctional socialization outcome for aspiring principals. Includes 50 references. (MLH)
