Vocational Resource Educator Handbook. Revised.
Boyer-Stephens, Arden; Day, Billie; Hall, Clarisse; Houx, Ted
Vocational Resource Educators (VREs) assist students with disabilities, place them in vocational programs in which they can successfully meet competencies, and create bridges across deficit areas to provide training programs so that students can gain competitive employment. VREs also participate as members of Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams to identify training resources for students with disabilities. This handbook is a compilation of strategies, activities, resources, and plans to improve the ability of VREs to provide the best services available to persons with disabilities. The handbook is divided into five chapters. The first chapter discusses the VRE's role in assessing students with disabilities; the second chapter covers the types of support services the VRE provides students, vocational instructors, support staff and personnel, and administrators; and the third chapter discusses the VRE's involvement in the Individualized Education Program. The duties that a VRE might perform in the role of advocate for students with disabilities are outlined in chapter 4. Chapter 5 contains resources for the information contained in the first four chapters as well as a list of suggested texts and state and national agencies that also provide resources to VREs. (KC)
