This course description was developed by educators for use at the Work Opportunity Center which was established to teach high school dropouts and/or hardcore unemployed youth. The ultimate objectives of this curriculum are to develop communicative skills necessary for social interaction and to help the student complete high school graduation requirements. Instructional topics such as (1) words, (2) correctness of expression, (3) rules for writing, (4) expression, and (5) reading materials, are taught on an individualized basis in an atmosphere of "learning by doing." Other features of this course description are a program evaluation, an annotated bibliography, teaching techniques and materials, and case studies.
