Students draw a series of pictures that tell a simple story that includes character action, problem and solution. They "read" their story to others, transcribe it into writing, and create an accordion book with the drawings and writing. The activity supports the transition from oral to written storytelling. During the four 30- to 40-minute sessions, K-2 students will: identify details in wordless books, which help them tell a story; draw a series of pictures which tell a sequential story; tell a sequential story following their own drawings; write a story which corresponds to their own sequential drawings; match their writing to corresponding drawings; and participate in the publishing process.
