Bellini, Scott; Akullian, Jennifer; Hopf, Andrea – School Psychology Review, 2007
An emerging body of research demonstrates the effectiveness of video self-modeling (VSM) in addressing social, communication, and behavioral functioning of children with autism spectrum disorders. The primary purpose of this study was to examine the benefits of a VSM intervention in increasing the social engagement of young children with autism…

Hunter, Maxwell W.; Ballash, Joan B. – Diagnostique, 1990
The Slosson Intelligence Test (SIT) and the Stanford-Binet, Fourth Edition (SBIV) were administered to 95 elementary students referred because of either learning problems or potential giftedness. SIT scores predicted SBIV verbal scores more accurately than composite scores. Overall the SIT predicted SBIV scores better for students with learning…

Peer reviewedAhlawat, Kapur S.; Billeh, Victor Y. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1987
Presents a comparative analysis of the psychometric properties of three group tests of logical thinking used in science education research. Findings dealing with Longeot's Test of Logical Thinking, Lawson's Test of Formal Reasoning, and Tobin and Capie's Test of Logical Thinking demonstrate a lack of concurrent validity. Includes recommendations.…

Peer reviewedCollis, Kevin F.; Davey, H. A. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1986
Reviews procedures followed in developing a set of science items for Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geology content areas and examines the items' construct validity in relation to a specific technique of evaluation. Analysis supported the items' construct validity and viability for testing certain science skills at the secondary level. (ML)

Chard, David J.; Stoolmiller, Mike; Harn, Beth A.; Wanzek, Jeanne; Vaughn, Sharon; Linan-Thompson, Sylvia; Kame'enui, Edward J. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2008
Despite recent research findings that implicate a long list of student variables that predict reading success or failure, these predictor variables have not been considered in the context of contemporary models of multitiered schoolwide reading intervention. This longitudinal, retrospective study follows 668 kindergarten and first-grade students…

Peer reviewedHolmes, Alice E.; And Others – Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, 1989
Use of acoustic reflectometry was compared with tympanometry in middle ear screenings for 357 children, aged 5 months to 19 years. Results were analyzed according to sex, age, and sensorineural hearing status. Intratest reliability was highly significant and positive predictive accuracy and specificity rates were excellent, but sensitivity rates…

Rubba, P. A.; Bakar, K. H. A. – 1985
The Science Teacher Inventory of Need (STIN) was developed specifically to assess the perceived needs of science teachers in developing nations. The purpose of this reported study was to apply factor analysis to the perceived needs data collected from a sample of Malaysian secondary science teachers in order to clarify further the factorial…

Peer reviewedLock, Roger – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1990
Investigated are the context dependency and construct validity of practical skill assessment in science which may include the skills of observing, manipulating, planning, interpreting, reporting, and self-reliance. Pupil performance on a variety of practical tasks were compared with external examination grades in biology and chemistry. (CW)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Biology, Chemistry, Content Validity
Peer reviewedSymington, David; Spurling, Heather – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1990
Presented is a criticism of the instructions given for and the scoring of the Draw-a-Scientist test (Chambers, 1983). A response to this criticism by authors who employ this method is included. (CW)

Flood, Mirjam; Weinstein, Debra; Halle, Tamara; Martin, Laurie; Tout, Kathryn; Wandner, Laura; Vick, Jessica; Sherman, Juli; Hair, Elizabeth – Child Trends, 2007
Quality measures were originally developed for research aimed at describing the settings that children spend time in and identifying the characteristics of these environments that contribute to children's development. They were also developed to guide improvements in practice. Increasingly, however, measures of quality are being used for further…

Campbell, Clifton P. – 1986
This guide explains the benefits of and procedures for constructing and administering criterion-referenced performance tests in vocational education programs. Addressed in the individual sections are the following topics: the rationale for using task performance measures in vocational education; the predictive validity and physical fidelity of…

Peer reviewedBrown, C. R.; Njabili, A. F. – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1989
Explores the concept of construct validity in the context of a public examination. Multitrait-multimethod analysis and factor analysis were used. Discusses the analyses in terms of theory versus practical components and experimental versus observational investigation in practical components. Sample items for the practical examinations are…

Sexton, David; And Others – Journal of the Division for Early Childhood, 1988
When administered to 34 infants with handicaps, Bayley Scale mental age scores were an average of 2.1 months higher than Estimated Developmental Ages (EDA's) calculated from the Uzgiris and Hunt Scales. The EDA's were significantly and positively related to Bayley mental age, and sensorimotor play emerged as the best single correlate. (Author/JDD)

Peer reviewedGriffin, Patrick E. – Australian Journal of Education, 1990
The paper outlines the development of a scale describing the progression of literacy skills, based on similar scales used in second-language acquisition. The scale is shown to have high reliability and appropriate criterion validity. Use of the scale to analyze student reading development is illustrated. Appended are descriptions of the scale's…
