The School Site: Land for Learning.
North Carolina State Dept. of Public Instruction, Raleigh.
This publication discusses those factors that must be recognized during the process of school site selection, planning, development, and use within North Carolina. Issues discussed in the site selection process include the technical requirements when selecting a school site, such as topography and drainage, access and traffic, security and safety, and noise levels. A worksheet is also provided for prioritizing sites. Site planning issues include discussions on the components of a school site such as buildings and landscaping, buses, private and service vehicles, pedestrian traffic, and utilities. Other areas addressed include playground and playground equipment planning, and various athletic field layouts. Final sections present lists of North Carolina agencies and statutes dealing with school site issues. (GR)
