Teacher morale in Singapore is explored by means of a questionnaire administered to 415 teachers in 10 secondary schools, and, 4 months later, to 305 teachers in 6 other secondary schools. Analysis suggests that items cluster around three factors: (1) leadership synergy; (2) cohesive pride; and (3) personal challenge. (10 references) (MLF)

Using surveys of the professional staffs of 41 secondary schools, this study examines the relationship between two aspects of bureaucratic structure (centralization and formalization) and two sorts of alienation (from work and expressive relations). This study examined the relationship between teacher involvement in decision making and loyalty to the principal in 10 elementary and 5 secondary schools in New Jersey. Researchers found that teachers were most loyal to principals who gave them decision-making power in areas closely related to instruction. (TE)
