Educational Fever and Factionalism in Contemporary South Korea: From a Sociopolitical Perspective
Jeong-Kyu Lee
Online Submission
This article explores the appearance and reality of education fever and factionalism in contemporary South Korea from a sociopolitical perspective. To discuss this study logically, three research questions are addressed. First, how was Korean educational fever appeared and developed in Korean cultural history? Second, how was factionalism formed and implemented in Korean cultural history? Last, how has factionalism influenced contemporary South Korea educationally and socio-politically? In order to defend the questions, the researcher utilizes a content analysis method. As for the limitations of this study, education fever and factionalism will be discussed from three aspects: education fever and educational cartelization; political and judicial factionalism; and medical monopolism and conflicts between the government and the medical community in current South Korea. The significance of this study is to provide worthy resources and basic theories regarding Korean education fever and factionalism for educational policy makers and educational theorists of the West and the East.
