Angry Kids, Frustrated Parents: Practical Ways To Prevent and Reduce Aggression in Your Children.
Hyland, Terry L.; Davis, Jerry
Recognizing that aggression in children can lead to severe problems at home, in school, and in the community, this book is a guide to help parents address the negative child behaviors of whining, teasing others, throwing temper tantrums, fighting, or intentionally hurting others. Part 1 of the book, focusing on recognizing aggression, defines aggression; differentiates anger, assertiveness, and aggression; and discusses reactive aggression, planned aggression, and bullying. Part 2 focuses on what parents can do to prevent or deal with aggression, and includes chapters on setting a good example, monitoring children's entertainment, teaching problem solving, monitoring children's whereabouts, using proactive teaching, setting boundaries and rules, and creating a strong spiritual foundation. Part 3 presents ways to deal with children's misbehavior and loss of control. Part 4 focuses on building strong relationships with children. The book concludes with encouragement to parents not to give up on their children and to seek professional assistance when necessary. (KB)
