Information is provided about the Delaware Educational Assessment Program and the performance of Delaware public school students as measured by a nationally-normed standardized achievement test. The Stanford Achievement Test, Eighth Edition was administered statewide, allowing comparisons with national performance and with the performance of Delaware students in the preceding year. Students were tested in grades 1 through 8 and in grade 11. Testing covered the content areas of reading, language, and mathematics, with supplemental testing in science and social studies in grade 11, and testing of higher order thinking skills from grade 3 through grade 11. Test results summarized in this report indicate that the average Delaware student was performing above the national norm in all content areas as well as in thinking skills. Two-year comparisons with other Delaware students indicated that achievement generally improved, with a decrease in scores noted for only one group and one content area. Twelve tables present student test results, and three extensive figures illustrate comparisons. Except as specifically noted in two data tables, this report provides results that are average scores for regular and special education students combined. Results are also provided for Delaware's 17 school districts. (SLD)
