Peer reviewedGable, Robert K. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1973
On the basis of previous research findings, 32 new items were added to Super's Work Values Inventory (WVI) and the resulting instrument was administered to 611 high school sophmores. Analyses supported the addition of items to the WVI. The scale intercorrelations and factorial dimensions of both versions were highly comparable; the addition of…

Peer reviewedThomas, Hollie B. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1974
This study investigated the effect of social class, race, and sex on the work values of ninth-grade students in a large metropolitan area. Results indicated that the primary differences were for the dependent variables of race and sex. In general, low social position black females scored low on the work values scales. (Author)

Halpin, Gerald; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
Super's Work Values Inventory is utilized in making interindividual and intraindividual comparative interpretations of work values. Internal consistency reliability coefficients for 15 scales and reliabilities of differences between scores on scales were of such a weak magnitude that caution in making interindividual and intrindividual comparisons…

Peer reviewedMietus, Walter S. – Journal of Industrial Teacher Education, 1977
Describes the development of the Maryland Work Value Inventory, designed to obtain research data and also to measure a range of attitudes held by high school students toward work, yielding useful data for subsequent studies. (MF)
Descriptors: Measurement Instruments, Predictive Validity, Research, Secondary Education
Peer reviewedMongo, Celestine L. – Delta Pi Epsilon Journal, 1981
A study was conducted to identify and compare the work values of high school seniors, their teachers, and first-level line managers in industry. Analysis revealed differences concerning status, age category of managers, job plans of students, locations of schools attended by the students, and sex category of students. (Author/CT)

Peer reviewedSchulenberg, John E.; And Others – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1988
To examine the magnitude/nature of short-term fluctuations in work values, seven college students completed the Work Values Inventory daily for approximately 100 days. Results of factor analysis cast doubt on the hypothesis that work values behave exclusively as trait-like dimensions and recommend better use of idiographic approaches. (TJH)

Peer reviewedBreme, Frederick J.; Cockriel, Irvin W. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1975
The hypothesis that the VPI and WVI are measuring the same domain based on theoretical similarities was tested using 195 male freshperson students. The data were analyzed by correlational technique including discriminant analysis. The results allow for the interpretation that the VPI and WVI are in fact measuring two distinctive domains. Peer reviewedNeumann, Lily; Neumann, Yoram – Journal of Experimental Education, 1983
Three discriminant analyses were performed for each of the different factors of work values. All dimensions discriminated effectively between liberal arts and engineering students. Liberal arts students tended to focus on general aspects of work, while engineering students maintained values relevant to specific aspects of their perceived jobs.…

Peer reviewedBolton, Brian – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1980
Stimulating work, interpersonal satisfaction, economic security, responsible autonomy, comfortable existence, and esthetic concerns provide a summary of clients' work motivation at a higher level of generality. They are independent of age, education, and intelligence and can be hand-scored. (Author)
Descriptors: Age Differences, Attitude Measures, Intelligence, Interest Inventories
Peer reviewedKuiper, Shirley – Delta Pi Epsilon Journal, 1978
Based on data collected to measure work values and perceptions of problems by married women, aged twenty to thirty-four, in the dual role of homemaker and clerical employee, the author presents findings from analyses of the relationships among work values, demographic and biographical variables, and problem perceptions. (MF)

Peer reviewedLee, Glenda E. – Community/Junior College Research Quarterly, 1978
Describes a study using Donald Super's Work Values Inventory, which found significant differences in work values between the sexes (males being more economically oriented) and among students grouped by discipline, but found scores only a moderate predictor of grade point average. The major predictor appeared to be motivation. (Author/AC)

Peer reviewedMietus, Walter S. – Journal of Industrial Teacher Education, 1979
Work values of groups of Maryland high school seniors were measured using the Maryland work Value Inventory, to find if students from different backgrounds would have different work values. It was found that categorizing students on the basis of how they classified their parents' occupations did produce different work value profiles. (MF)
Descriptors: Classification, Educational Research, High Schools, Individual Differences
Donohue, Peggy J. – 1984
A study investigated the relationship of adolescent work status to personal values associated with work, social skills, and academic performance. The Work Values Inventory and the Basic Living Skills Pupil Record Form were administered to 165 eleventh and twelfth grade students. These students were subsequently classified as being naturally…

Peer reviewedVunderink, Patricia – Delta Pi Epsilon Journal, 1980
A study was undertaken to learn about the work behaviors of urban business education students and clerical workers and about the nature of the office work environment. Results indicated that the two groups had similar work values and job perceptions, and that the satisfaction of intrinsic needs was deemed important. (Author/JOW)
