Remote Associates Test, College, Adult, Form 1 and Examiner's Manual, Remote Associates Test, College and Adult Forms 1 and 2.
Mednick, Sarnoff A.; Mednick, Martha T.
The forty minute Remote Associates Test (RAT) is designed to measure individual differences in an ability considered to be fundamental to the creative thinking process. It is based on a strictly associative interpretation of this process, an interpretation which envisions the process as one of seeing relationships between seemingly mutually remote ideas. The materials used in the test involve verbal associative habits that could reasonably be assumed to be familiar to almost all individuals brought up in the United States English speaking culture. The score is determined by the number of answers correct. The examiner's manual provides directions for administration and scoring, normative data, item development, and reliability. A number of studies attesting to the validity of the theory of creative thinking and the RAT as a "redictor of creative performance are briefly presented. A bibliography provides references. An answer sheet and scoring key are included. (author/pt)
