Green Leadership and Environmental Awareness Growing with Indonesia's Adiwiyata Program at a Kotabaru School

The main focus of this research is to explore the success of the Adiwiyata Program at SMPN 1 Kotabaru in raising environmental awareness among students and teachers. The Adiwiyata Program, an initiative by the Indonesian government, aims to create environmentally conscious schools through education and practical actions. The methodology used is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The participants in the research include the principal, teachers, students, and parents. Findings reveal that the green leadership of the principal plays a crucial role in creating a supportive climate for environmental education. Additionally, the team synergy between students, teachers, and parents has proven effective in waste management, achieving a 75% reduction in plastic waste and success in managing a waste bank and compost production. Our conclusion of indicates that collaboration between green leadership and active participation of the school community is essential for the program's success. We offer recommendations for other schools to implement similar principles in an effort to create a younger generation that is more concerned about the environment.
