The Monroe Middle School (Monroe, North Carolina) intramural sports program began in 1972 with one teacher, no funds, and limited facilities. With hard work, the program now has a director, six assistants; top priority in facility use, and financial support for awards and equipment. (MJB)

The high school sports club program, providing for competitive experience with extraschool organizations in sports for which there are no interscholastic programs, warrants serious attention by high school administrators faced with increased costs and inflation, and a diversity of student interests.
