Using Cuisenaire Rods, metric measurement, and mapping, students worked collaboratively to calculate, keep records, build, and problem solve with use of decimal fractions as a key element.

Strategies that children used to solve a fraction problem are presented, and an insight into how students think about divisions and fractions is described. Teachers can use these strategies to help students establish connections related to fractions.

The situations created by individual style of problem solving in mathematics by children are discussed. Children can solve their mathematical problem by correcting their misconceptions on their own with the use of open discussions with others.
