Although racial identity theory has the potential to explain some aspects of career development, its value would be increased by conceptualizing race as a dependent variable in research and theory. Results of a study of 219 graduating college students suggest that self-exploration has little impact on job search behavior; environmental exploration is associated with job search intensity; and the level of job search intensity had the most direct impact on initial compensation in a job. Determinants of a favorable attitude toward retirement were sought in an interview study of 179 top executives, age 55 and over in 13 leading Israeli organizations. It was found that attitude towards retirement appears to be associated more closely with feelings about oneself than with perceptions of the job. (Author)
