The Iowa Statewide Delivery System provided for the educational needs of 267,000 adults throughout the State in 1973-74. Fifteen area schools offered programs in adult basic education, high school completion, general adult and continuing education, and career supplementary education, as well as other innovative programs. The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education and the School of Pharmacy developed and presented, as a pilot project, a series of four telelectures at 10 locations throughout the State. Operation COPE, an experimental demonstration project in adult basic education, established two family learning centers in Washington, D.C., that served a total of 110 disadvantaged mothers who were heads of households with educational achievement under eight years. Five institutions under one governing board have begun a degree program that is more responsive to the needs of the mature adult. Work remains to be accomplished in work competency assessment, but there is a growing commitment to the program, because it serves people not previously served--effectively. (Author)
